TKK Young Inventors’ Award

The TKK Young Inventors’ Award is an open competition to stimulate innovation among the young generation and to promote scientific and technological research in Singapore. 2 of our very own DMIT students, Jean Tan Zhiye and Lee Di Sheng participated and were awarded the Silver Medal under the Senior Student Section. With the guidance of their mentor Mr. Boo Soo Heng and their hard work, they came up with an android-powered mobile app called mPresenter  that helps a person makes an impactful presentation.



Our congratulations to our students (actually already alumni :)) and mentor Mr. Boo Soo Heng on receiving the Silver Medal for the TKK Young Inventors’ Award. Btw, Silver is the highest award given in this year's competition.




Congratulations!! We are proud of you both. :)

Zhong Hua Secondary School Infocomm Club Visits DMIT

As part of their Infocomm Camp, Zhonghua Secondary School students visited SEG(E) to learn more about Infocomm and what the DMIT diploma has to offer. They were given a brief introduction of the school, the Infocomm industry, and also what DMIT diploma is about and what it has to offer. 

The students were then given a tour of the facilities in the school, as well as demonstrations of some interesting systems. Here's one of the video we took while they were trying out the Kinect-enabled systems =)


Everyone had a fun time learning Infocomm and we took a group photo too!

IDA is setting up 5 Digital Lifestyle booths to showcase mobile/tablet applications to the public. As a Festive Ambassador, you will man the booth and explain & demo the applications. This is a good opportunity to serve as a volunteer in the Infocomm area and would be something you can highlight in your resume as well.

Job Opening for Multimedia Developer (Part-time/Full-time)

As a multimedia developer, you will be developing interactive educational content and applications using the most appropriate authoring tools and scripting languages and creating prototypes of new experimental ideas/work that can be pitched to value add education providers.


Requirements:
• Diploma/Degree in Multimedia/ Interactive Media Design/ Visual communications & related fields.
• Resourceful and keeping up-to-date with the latest technologies
• Thorough understanding of Actionscript 3.0, object-orientated programming and design patterns
• Experience with integrating web 2.0 technologies into projects
• Familiar with API’s (Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, etc) and use them in Flash-based projects
• Working knowledge of other programs and scripting languages: Adobe Flash, Photoshop, Fireworks,
Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Sorenson Squeeze, MDM Zinc, conversion tools, HTML, CSS, Javascript
• Back-end knowledge is a plus (php, MySQL) and integration with a Flash-based Front-end interface
• Strong understanding of design, web-optimization (especially related to Flash content), technical
platform compatibilities and web browser limitations and capabilities
• Strong ability in Photoshop, Dreamweaver, PowerPoint and knowledge of video post-production
software

A local IT company is looking for passionate, bright, talented and fun people with strong programming and web application development skillsets.  


Main Responsibilities of the Role
1. Translate user and business requirements into functional specifications
2. Design, develop and test web applications as part of digital marketing solutions for top consumer brands
3. Integrate applications with in-house API and social media platforms
4. Support ongoing marketing campaigns on social media with content updates.


Required Skills & Talents
1. Passionate about programming while able to see from business perspective
2. Manages timelines and project deliverables comfortably
3. Proficiency in PHP programming is compulsory, knowledge in C#.net object-oriented programming for web-based applications is an advantage
4. Competent in efficient MS SQL database queries and scalable database schema design
5. Skillful in HTML layout, CSS and Javascript client-side language
6. Knowledge in robust application development with strong security in mind
7. Experience in jQuery and/or Facebook SDK is an advantage. 


Education & Working Experience
1. Diploma or Bachelor degree in computing or engineering from accredited tertiary institution
2. Strong understanding of programming concepts and software development life cycle
3. At least 1 year of working experience in similar capacity preferred but not necessary
4. Good spoken and written English is compulsory.
Salary: S$1,800-$2,500 per month + bonus.

Job Opening for Network and Systems Management Engineer

Dear all, 
Interested to provide network and systems management services to a customer in Loyang area? Read on!


Job Scope:
(a) Ensure systems and products are properly configured and maintained by performing service; infrastructure operations activities according to customer requirements.

(b) Provide proactive fault monitoring and first level incident management for the entire set of products supported in the Command Centre. The products are, but not limited to: Bag Manager, Bag Message, FastCheck, Web Checkin, CUTE/CUSS, Network, Voice, server environments (Intel, UX), Oracle and SQL database.



Requirements:
(a) Willing to work 12-hour shifts (including weekends and PH)

(b) Diploma in Computer Science, Data Communications, Electrical Engineering (or equivalent), with: 

- Strong knowledge in EMC-SMARTS, CA CEM at operator level is advantageous
- Certification in Cisco, Avaya, AIX, Solaris would be an asset
- Experience with cluster environment (especially AIX HACMP) would be an asset
- Experience with MQSeries (or other message queuing system) would be an asset
- Experience with SQL / Oracle database environments would be an asset
- 1 to 3 years experience of troubleshooting network protocols; IP on Switched Ethernet and Token Ring, as well as WAN protocols; X.25, frame relay, MPLS, WAN, and LAN.
- Experience with Cisco routers and switches (latest models) is a must, Other experience with product like Juniper WOC, Voice service technologies such as Nortel and Avaya, IPSec and firewalls would be an asset
- Knowledge and/or experience with multi-tasking operating systems (OS2/Solaris/Aix/Linux/Windows) would be an asset
- Knowledge of Airport/Airline Operations would be beneficial
- Experience in customer services / helpdesk environment
- Network management experience with application like HP Openview, SNMP agents, InfoVista, EMC SMARTS, Netcool, etc. is a must.

We will be conducting a resume writing workshop to explain the basics of writing an effective resume.

You will learn how to present your experience, strengths, accomplishments and achievements in a way that most effectively demonstrates your qualifications for the job. There will be an opportunity for the participants to ask questions about your own resumes and we will assist to review and feedback on your resume.

Position Summary

The Systems Engineer (SE) will be working closely with the ITSM Consultants in providing consultation, implementation and configuration services for IT Service Management Solutions for clients. Primary IT Service Management implementation will be on HP Service Manager platform.

Training will be provided to successful candidate in technologies employed for the above solutions. Ideally, the candidate should have the following pre-requisite:
  •         Self-motivated and excellent communication skills.
  •         Demonstrate excellent verbal and written skill to communicate effectively with cross functional teams.
  •         Able to work independently and resourceful in getting support to complete task on hand.
  •         Have excellent interpersonal, negotiation and analytical skills.
  •         Knowledge in ITIL foundation.
  •         Knowledge of using HP Service Manager.
  •         Keen interest and knowledge on Java or Javascript.

A a comprehensive career path awaits the successful candidate for both technical and Sales Track. The Engineer can progress either progress to Consultant tracks or Pre-Sales track at the later stage of their career. This role may require the candidate to travel (up to 30%) within the Asia Pacific Regions.
