Student Say: Parting Words...

Time flies, and tomorrow will be the last day in school for our Year 3 students. Its been a stressful yet fun-riding journey for the past 3 years, and we are sure the strong bonds of friendship that you have forged will last you a lifetime!

Here's what some of the graduating students have to say about their 3 years in DMIT:

Fiona says:
my parting words for juniors are, dont get too used to skipping lectures, labs and tutorials. dont complain if your lesson starts early in the morning 8 o'clock. better start counting your blessings now, FYP timing is much worst than your normal lessons.

HAHAHA sounds crappy.

aiya, just HAVE FUN DURING FYP!!!! wahahha u'll miss FYP!

Valerie says:
"booya! Today's the day i'm out of nyp! Not officially yet though, but still.. hmmm. It has been a long 3 years, but yet a very memorable one. Maybe alot of you cannot wait to get out of NYP asap. I used to think like that, but now that i'm out, i miss the days i skipped lectures with my friends, walk to amk for lunch during long breaks and all those stuff which most of us do. hahaha!

NYP may mark the end of another phase of my life, but the friendships made continues till the end. jiayou all of you for the rest of poly life, and treasure your time there because you're out even before you know it. takecare! ((:

If you are a senior who is graduating, do leave comments in this post on YOUR parting words!

Good luck!

The exam season has started for the 3rd Years and will be starting soon after the Chinese New Year holidays for the 2nd and 1st Years! Strive to do your best and get great results!

Best of luck from all of us at the OLT Team!

LTA-Polytechnic Collaboration Competition 2007

In this year's annual LTA-Polytechnic Collaboration Competition, our DMIT students did us proud by winning the Gold Award!

The project, "Temperature Profile Analyzer for Subway Environmental Simulation(SES) Program", was to develop an application that could extract information from 2 files and plot a graph automatically, while allowing the engineers to visually analyze the graph easily and effectively.

Students Hui Hui and Jason, who presented the project, had the following to say:
We were selected to represent NYP at the LTA-Polytechnic Collaboration held at Republic Polytechnic. We had to present our project to the public in a big lecture theatre. It was a very enriching experience since we had never done a presentation on a stage and to such a large audience before.

It's great to work on a industrial project since you realize that all the technical skills you learn in school can actually be applied in the industry. It also gives us a great sense of satisfaction knowing that the project we developed will actually be used by real engineers and that it has helped to make their life easier.

Well done, Jason, Hui Hui and all the other students who helped developed this project!

Student Say: FYP and graduating...

Final year project (FYP) is an integral part of the training for DMIT, and here's what 2 of our FYP students have to say, as they finish up the final touches to their project, towards graduation.

James Lui says:
Hi all! Finally after weeks of no life-ing 8 to 6 in school, my FYP is finally coming to an end! I am more or less finished with my project and am currently preparing for my wk 12 "exhibition". I shall now bore you with what I have done for the past weeks! Haha...

During the first 3 weeks, I have been asked to continue developing a game for NYP's Open House! *applause pls!*

After this part, I next create a simulation using Flash that allow a user to select a target on a LIVE video screen and a vehicle mounted with the camera that is streaming the video to move to the targeted point. OMG headache!

Haha, but luckily the simulation is close to completion and FYP has made me more familiar with actionscripting.

Luckily for me, FYP is fun because I was blessed with fun and helpful DTs who helped me solve errors when I am brain dead from all the thinking. Joke with us to relieve us of stress!

Ok! 6pm already! Time to go home! Bye!

Teresa Wee says:
A warm greeting to everyone!

Currently doing my Final Year Project @ Blk S.435. Another 17 days LEFT (w/o weekend) to the end of my FYP. Can say that I'm happy and also sad about it.

Well, I'm happy because I'm going to finish my project soon. And sad because I'm leaving NYP and my dear poly friends soon. 12 weeks of FYP and it's already Week 9 now. Time really flies!

Alright, shall talk more about my proj. I'm doing some mobile applications that uses GPS to track our location and navigation.

What I've done so far are creating our own maps, changing the interface of our program, and we are now working on searching the location using places of interest. Well, those of you who own a PDA and drive a car would most probably heard of it before. We had a hard time figuring out how to draw our own map. It's very tedious but we managed to draw from Yio Chu Kang to AMK where our school is situated in.

Well, I really enjoyed my FYP. Although having a little hard time doing proj but at least I learned a new programming language and know to draw our own maps! Most importantly we have friendly and funny DTs whom sometimes really make my day! Not to forget my friends who make my FYP more meaningful! Well, I guess that's all! Hope u all won't be bored after reading. Bye bye and have a nice day!

Student Say: Stress-sation!!!

First day of February, and we are in the thick of the stress season, where projects are due and common tests are around the corner. 8-)

In the midst of all these, let's see what some of our students say!

Tiffany of Year 3 says:
Just a hour before the comm skills common test, I was at my usual hangout with my friends, doing revisions and trying very hard to memorise those words that seems so hard to get into my brain. -stress-sation!!!

Pari of Year 2 says:
Just finished Animation test, going on with RAD test...

Judy Ang of Year 2 says:
Projects, deadline, exams all at one go. How stressful man. Currently, I'm doing my NTP (Network Technology Project). I love school, I love challenges. CNY is coming, but have to revise for common tests and do project. I think its better this way also, don't have to go relatives house and "bai nian". Ok gtg and Bye Bye!

Lee Lee of Year 3 says:
2 more days to hand in my PHP project... I'm now in N.508 doing it. Really hope that this project will work... hehe =)
